Family Counseling

Families are experiencing more stress than ever due to a rise in mental health issues in individuals.

When one family member is feeling pressure, it tends to affect the rest of the family in negative ways, resulting in an imbalanced system.

Emotional connections may be strained which can lead to a host of other problems.

I provide family counseling by building a rapport with the family and creating a safe space for all of its members.

I believe in listening to each individual in the family and showing respect to each member. As in counseling with adults and adolescents, I provide this type of therapy in a nurturing way as well which allows for openness, growth, and healing so that the system can be balanced again and function in an effective way.

What is family therapy?

Family therapy is a type of counseling that helps families and/or couples learn to communicate better, improve the dynamics between one another, understand each other better, and develop healthy habits when dealing with issues that come up.

Family therapy looks at the whole family system, and it looks at how each person’s role in the family influences the rest of the members and the interactions.

This perspective draws upon the strengths of the family and assists in facilitating productive growth, balance, and harmony among each other.

Family therapy may include an entire family, couples, or a set within a family.

How long does my family need to be in this type of counseling?

That depends on the specific needs and goals of the family. Sometimes this may only take 6 – 12 sessions for specific issues or 20 or more sessions for more complex matters.

This also depends on each member’s motivation and willingness to make positive changes. It is typical to begin with weekly sessions and then to move to biweekly and eventually monthly sessions as progress is achieved.

Is your practice inclusive of all types of individuals?

Absolutely! A huge part of understanding others is respecting their culture, beliefs, and views. Within families, there may be some similarities, but there are no doubt differences in each person and how they think, feel, and behave.

I have experience working with people of different backgrounds, races, sexualities, and lifestyles and continually take educational classes to keep up to date on best practices for various populations.

What makes you different from other counselors for my family?

Counseling is my passion, and I take pleasure from doing my best to help others feel worthy and important so they can go on to live fulfilled lives.

Counseling doesn’t feel like a job to me as I wake up every morning excited to see clients. I’m often told by those I work with that they enjoy working with me because of my compassion, kindness, and authenticity.

I am here to offer encouragement and hope for you and your family and to help them thrive in each other’s presence.
